Alan Grayson leading in Republican Primary
Grayson Leading In REPUBLICAN Primary
Quote:
Republicans like a politician who stands up for what he believes -- even if he believes the Republican Party is populated by a bunch of "knuckle-dragging Neanderthals."
The candidate leading the Florida GOP primary to determine who will take on Rep. Alan Grayson, the Democrat who represents the Orlando-based district, is none other than Grayson himself, according to a poll paid for by his campaign. Grayson is a freshman congressman who has drawn scorn from the GOP and has quickly built a nationwide following of progressives.
The poll has Grayson leading the 13 Republicans -- among Republicans -- with 27.8 percent of the vote. The congressman who mocked the GOP health care plan by saying that it amounts to telling people not to get sick and if they do, to die quickly, received more support than all of the Republican candidates combined.

How does this fit into the republicans claim Massachusetts was a referendum on the Evil Liberals and their socialist ways?

It doesn't. Is this a glimmer of hope that people are coming to their sense re: the Republicans?

Re: Alan Grayson leading in Republican Primary
I think, despite the NPR newscaster saying Americans want the congress to slow down on health care, that most Americans would like change to speed the fuck up.
I am thinking that if the republicans postion themselves, as they were said to do in this report GOP keeps distance from RNC pitch - Andy Barr - POLITICO.com, it will back fire.

That let the cat out of the bag, didn't it? It is somewhat amusing to watch them try to distance themselves from what is their core behavior.

Re: Alan Grayson leading in Republican Primary
Oh yeah, it'll be fun to see if anyone remembers when it's voting time too.
I hope in a good way, but I've been disappointed before.
I still think many of the main stream pundits are mis-reading the dissatisfaction of the populace as swinging more voters, independents especially, to the relm of "Oh noes socialism" republicanism.

Re: Alan Grayson leading in Republican Primary
I'm an unaffilated voter myself and one reason is that the Republicans make me sick to my stomach, sometimes literally.
I probably have more in common with the Dems but I can't stand their circular firing squad, corporate stooge crap either.

No GOP candidate scored above 3.7 percent; 57.7 percent said they were undecided.

That's probably significant, right there. A good majority of the people polled are still undecided and none of the competition appears to have any support.

Jerry Brown announces run for California governor - Yahoo! News
Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – California Attorney General Jerry Brown formally announced on Tuesday his run for governor of the economically troubled state, becoming the only high-profile Democrat facing a Republican field led by former eBay Inc CEO Meg Whitman.
Brown, 71, has made no secret of his intention to run again for the governor's office, which he held for eight years starting in 1975, launching two of three unsuccessful bids for president while in office.
He faces no serious Democratic primary opposition and leads Whitman and her rival for the Republican nomination, state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, according to a January poll, in a campaign that is certain to focus on saving and creating jobs.

Just hope the state is not beyond saving.

I am also an "independent" voter. It is a little galling, though, when those independents are assessed by the media to be the moderate middle. I am a liberal who finds no home in the Democratic party.

California is broke, its 12.1 percent unemployment rate is among the highest in the nation, housing prices have plunged, home foreclosures have skyrocketed and a drought is threatening the state's dwindling water supply. There also are plenty of other issues for would-be U.S. senators to debate, including the battered economy and a massive effort to overhaul the nation's health care system.
Instead, the state's Republican Senate primary has been heating up over Israel.
With former Rep. Tom Campbell leading in the polls, his challengers for the Republican nomination — businesswoman Carly Fiorina and Assemblyman Chuck DeVore — are taking persistent shots at the front-runner, saying that his record consistently has been anti-Israel.

And thanks Prop 13 (created by more village idiots) its allowing a minority of these village idiots to hold the states budget hostage.

It's worth noting that Jello later recanted his views on Brown, saying that he turned out to be nowhere near as bad as he expected him to be.

Re: Alan Grayson leading in Republican Primary
Poor Tom Campbell. I've seen him get tagged as a RINO in every election he's run in. The most notable was the Senate race that resulted in Barbara Boxer's victory. A knuckle-dragging douchebag named Bruce Herschenson, I think, ran nonstop ads that called him a "real liberal," mostly because he had -- HORRORS! -- a high ACLU rating. The douchebag won the primary, and I think all of the analysts at the time agreed that Campbell probably would have beaten Boxer. So basically, I think that conservative Californians are pretty much responsible for getting one of their scariest liberal bogeywomen elected.

Re: Alan Grayson leading in Republican Primary
Here in Cascadia, Oregon lost it's state treasurer, the turncoat Republican state senator, former coke-head, bull semen dealer, and past independent goober candidate, Ben Westlund, to lung cancer. I bailed on the Democratic Party to support his independent gubernatorial campaign and have been NAWAPP ever since, even though Ben moved over to the Democrats and got himself elected to a statewide office.
