Michael Steele Says Afghanistan Was 'War Of Obama's Choosing,' Not Something The U.S. 'Wanted To Engage In' (VIDEO)

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele expressed an unusual interpretation of the relationship between Barack Obama and the war in Afghanistan at a Connecticut fundraiser Thursday.

"This was a war of Obama's choosing," Michael Steele said at the event. "This is not something the United States has actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in."

Steele also accused Obama of "demonizing Iraq while saying the battle really should be in Afghanistan."

Yeah, it was already sad watching the DNC trot out their response: the Michael Steele "hates the troops"- and hence America- line. Thanks for the nationalistic, authoritarian, conform-to-policy-or-be-branded-traitor speech, Democratic National Committee. I mean, everybody was clear you had all the sense and standards of a meth-head a week into a binge. But in case there were a few trusting souls who thought the DNC might not stoop quite so low, there you was, a-stoopin so very fucking low indeed.

As Greenwald and others point out, despite his party-serving lie, elements of what Steele says are true- Obama did choose to pursue and escalate Afghanistan. And the US public is skeptical about how war in Afghanistan is helping the US. And a land war in Asia is a bad idea. It's okay though, neocon Bill Kristol and the DNC are in agreement about Steele and how he hates America.
