Question This may be a sign of the coming apocalypse...

Quote:
She made three interlocking points. First, that the United States is now governed by a “permanent political class,” drawn from both parties, that is increasingly cut off from the concerns of regular people. Second, that these Republicans and Democrats have allied with big business to mutual advantage to create what she called “corporate crony capitalism.” Third, that the real political divide in the United States may no longer be between friends and foes of Big Government, but between friends and foes of vast, remote, unaccountable institutions (both public and private).
Quote:
“Do you want to know why nothing ever really gets done?” she said, referring to politicians. “It’s because there’s nothing in it for them. They’ve got a lot of mouths to feed — a lot of corporate lobbyists and a lot of special interests that are counting on them to keep the good times and the money rolling along.”
The she in the above paragraphs is none other than Sarah Palin. Perhaps being on the outside of the Republican party looking in helped her gain some perspective. :chin:

Well, if that's what she has to say when she isn't being coached every phrase by party handlers, I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised.

Or it's populist boilerplate targeted to appeal to the bubbling cauldron of rageahol nursed by her cracker base.

I don't buy the "this is why things don't get done" part, either. Bush didn't appoint certain oversight and regulatory positions because his administration was ideologically opposed to it, and not doing it was a means to an end. Congress has a huge number of judicial appointments tied up for years and years, because it provides them leverage and because they hope they will get to put in ideological brethren and sistren if they can get enough of one party in congress and in the executive. Maybe a third of Palin's narrative is grounded in truth; politicos at the national level really spend the year before election focused on fund-raising and pulling in votes.

The ineffectiveness of congress story also misses the fact that obstruction, filibuster, and threats of filibuster come predominantly from the Right these days.

I think this is just more of the outsider critique play, from someone milking the public an Teahadist Associations to support her celebrity flirtation with politics.

Well, in my defense, the bar was set pretty low...

I'm surprised those comments came from her. I think I felt a piece of sky falling on my head while reading that article.
