Default The Dragon and The George

The Mother of all Smokescreens

Okay...some of you UK types need to spill it on Glorious George Galloway right here and now.

This was just brilliant:

“I am not now, nor have I ever been, an oil trader, and neither has anyone on my behalf,” he told the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations as he began refuting the committee’s accusations that ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein gave him credits to export Iraqi oil.

As with all hopeful signs there are bound to be some negatives for the Neocon minions to exploit.

C'mon...he doesn't do his own laundry, right?

I thought it might be about the Gordon R. Dickson novel.

The Dickenson novel was pretty bad. I have a 1st ed hardcover, if you want to buy.

Knowing George Galloway, his answer to any question about doing his own laundry would be very rude.

Well, it's about time there was a dissenting voice heard in the wilderness over here.

What else can you tell me about the man, Gurdur?

I know nothing about this man. However, listening to the radio, it sounds like the majority of the British public are pleased to have heard this man stand up and say these things.

He won an election recently and created a bit of hype when some Brit journalist kept badgering him about whether or not he was proud of having pushed one of the few black women out of parliament. He accused him later of appealing to the racial tensions of his constituency. Galloway pretty much smashed him - I thought anyway - it was quite a sight to watch. All this on live television, of course.

That's just the kind of thing I'm looking for along with some personal opinions of those who are familiar with his history.

I can google search all the live long day, but I like the personal touch real people "in the know" can give.

Other than being boisterous and "rude" (outspoken) what are his foibles/flaws?

GG: No, I don't know who you mean.
JP: Never heard of him.
GG: I've never heard of Nick Raynsford, no.
JP: What else haven't you heard of?
GG: Well, I've been in Parliament a long time...
JP: He was a Parliamentary colleague of yours until very recently.
GG: Well, most of them just blend one into the other, Jeremy, they're largely a spineless, a supine bunch.
JP: Have you ever heard of Tony Banks?
GG: Yes I have, yes.
JP: Right, Tony Banks was sitting here five minutes ago, and he said that you were behaving inexcusably, that you had deliberately chosen to go to that part of London and to exploit the latent racial tensions there.
GG: You are actually conducting one of the most - even by your standards - one of the most absurd interviews I have ever participated in. I have just won an election. Can you find it within yourself to recognise that fact? To recognise the fact that the people of Bethnal Green and Bow chose me this evening. Why are you insulting them?
JP: I'm not insulting them, I'm not insulting you
GG: You are insulting them, they chose me just a few minutes ago. Can't you find it within yourself even to congratulate me on this victory?
JP: Congratulations, Mr Galloway.
GG: Thank you very much indeed. [Waves, removes microphone]

Fantastic.
