Happy Birthday Aung San Suu Kyi

I have no particular interest in Ms Suu Kyi other than supporting democracy, but it was her birthday last weekend and she's 60. Didn't realise that.

Ms Suu Kyi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991, has been under house arrest since May 2003.

She has spent 10 of the last 16 years in confinement.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said people "look forward to the day when you can celebrate your birthday in a democratic and free Burma where fundamental human rights are respected".

Ms Suu Kyi responded with, here in Rangoon we pray for the day when fundamental human rights are respected in the united states as well.

Ah, Burma - where some of George W. Bush's 2004 campaign sweatshirts were manufactured.

No democracy, but plenty of cheap labor.
