A perfect example of what the LME is was illustrated by the Congressman John Murtha media event. This guy calls for a withdrawal from Iraq, and suddenly he is promoted by the media to a miltary expert. Did you ever hear of him before last week's media hype? The press then portrays Murtha's speech as part of a groundswell to cut and run in Iraq. A vote is taken in the House on the issue - 403 to 3 against withdrawal. Remember when all the dems who voted for the war tried to backpeddle later by using the excuse that Bush had lied to them? Well, here was their chance to clarify their position - and it was against wihdrawal.

37 years in the Marines, retired Colonel. That puts him in the category of "military expert" by default.

Remember when all the dems who voted for the war tried to backpeddle later by using the excuse that Bush had lied to them? Well, here was their chance to clarify their position - and it was against wihdrawal.

One thing has little to do with the other. Just because you are not in favor of withdrawal does not mean that one would have voted for the war in the first place, or even supports it fully. What it means is that they believe that leaving immediately will have a negative impact on the Iraqi people--not that they weren't lied to to get them to support a war, or that they in all actually support action in Iraq.
