Default Should men be allowed to vote?

What would a world look like if men weren't allowed to vote? :chin:

Not that much different, men would still fight the wars, its just that they would be started by a bunch of hissy-fit throwing world leaders. Wait, that's exactly how it is now.

It was like that for a very lon time. Life wasn't what we refer to as "enlightened".

Of course, you mean if it were to be today and men weren't allowed to vote.

Interesting question. Of course, the first U.S. election in which women were allowed to vote, Warren G. Harding was elected president. Women campaigned for the right to vote on a platform that they would clean up corruption in U.S. politics. Harding, however, is generally regarded by historians as one of the worst American presidents, and had one of the most corrupt administrations (see the Teapot Dome scandal). Then again, surveys show that American women are much more likely to vote for Democrats than their male counterparts (and given the track record of the Bush Administration, that can't be bad!!).

Didn't the Republicans put up Dan Quayle to attract the "women's vote"? That was so cynical and insulting they won the election.

Yes.

Instead of fighting wars over access to oil, they'd be fought over access to Jimmy Choo slingbacks. :giggle:

It would be a world full of very unhappy men who loath women: due to the hypocrisy that women get to vote but men don't. I doubt it would last long, just like women's, Black people's etc. lack of the right to vote didn't last long once they started fighting for it.

It would probably involve a lot more suicide that we have now.

It would mean men were subservient to women and I have yet to meet a woman who felt satisfied in a relationship with a subservient man. I have known many women satisfied in relationships where men where their equal and even their superior in some ways, but never have seen happiness from a woman whose man was subservient.

Simple,
there would be fewer old grumpy rich conservative men politicians.
They would be replaced by old grumpy rich conservative women politicians.

I'm amazed women even know how to vote, seeings as how every other aspect of their lives is always sent to the rest of the oestrogen-committee for endless debate and no resolution.

I honestly think that, if we're talking about a worldwide ban on male voting, there would be much less violent conflict. I say this because, as sociology confirms, women generally express anger through social confrontation and isolation as opposed to violent physical displays, whereas men are more likely to use physical violence. But I'm not sure. It's a good question.

Right. Which means women would say "Hey you, go kill that fuker over there" instead of the male way of saying "we are going to kill that fuker over there, hey you, go do it."

It leads to the same thing. Don't even pretend that women, by virtue of being more subtle, are less violent than men.

Men play videogames where they chop people's head off and women wonder what the fascination is. Women simply verbally chop off heads [gossip] at the beauty shop and men wonder what the fascination is.

Same shit, different gender, different way of expressing it, same shit.

I think there's a fairly notable difference between a fist-fight and mean gossip. When you say that women verbally chop off heads, you're using a metaphor to equate words with actual decapitation, but words and decapitation are not the same thing, do not spring from the same motivations, and do not have the same consequences. Cutting someone down by talking shit about them may be petty and destructive, but it's not he same as cutting some down with a scythe; for one thing, the latter ends a life.

I'm not sure if the world would be less violent if only women had the vote. It's possible, I suppose, but it's just as possible that we'd behave exactly as men did when they had the vote.

Let me ask you, happykat, were you thinking if only women were allowed to vote here and now, or only women had ever been allowed to vote? I ask because it seems to me there would be significat cultural differences between the two scenarios.

History would have been equally fucked up. We are a fucked up species. This fucked upness applies to both genders.

I'll bite.

What would maternity pay & rights be if women had the vote; women controlled most jobs (as managers and shareholders); women owned most assets (businesses, land, houses, etc)?

As the manager of a business, how ya gonna afford to pay your staff 18 years maternity leave each?
