Having lived in Wyoming before I can tell you there are places that look about like the scenery in the movie, particularly in the Wind River range, not far Riverton, a town featured in the movie.

That aside, I'd guess sex with sheep is far more common in mountainous Wyoming than gay cowboy sheepherder sex.
