Default Bar sweeps in Texas

Bar sweeps

Quote:
At one location, for example, agents and police arrested patrons of a hotel bar. Some of the suspects said they were registered at the hotel and had no intention of driving. Arresting authorities said the patrons were a danger to themselves and others.
What next? Stormtroopers breaking down your doors to arrest you because you have a drink in front of the TV?

"Going to a bar is not an opportunity to go get drunk," TABC Capt. David Alexander said.
News to me! David Alexander sounds like an idiot. I can see making arrests where people are drunk and disorderly, but just drunk? That's crazy talk.

TABC officials said the sweep concerned saving lives, not individual rights.
Nice to know you only have to worry about one or the other.

This is the state that put GW into power. Concern for non-gun related freedom is pretty the fuck low.

Hey be nice to us backward illiterate Texas hillbillies. Obviously we don't know what's good for us.

I can't say I'm terribly surprised by this article. Irving is a dry city, and as I discussed here the citizens voted about 2 to 1 to keep it dry in the 2004 special election. Nevertheless like liv I don't get how intoxication in a private establishment constitutes "public intoxication". Maybe one of the legal types around here can enlighten us.

Actually, to be fair, about 60% of the US falls into the "total the fuck idiot" category when it comes to freedom, liberty, et al. From what I've been told of Texas by Texans, it scares me. Bush is apparently extremely Texan. :shudder:

"I was drunk... in a BAR. They threw me into PUBLIC."--Ron White, comedian, talking about being charged with Public Intoxication after being bodily removed from a drinking establishment.
