Default Wafa Sultan in da house.

Arab-American Psychologist Wafa Sultan: There Is No Clash of Civilizations but a Clash between the Mentality of the Middle Ages and That of the 21st Century

Transcript here: http://www.memritv.org/Transcript.asp?P1=1050

"The Muslims must ask themselves what they can do for humankind, before they demand that humankind respect them."

She's a very strong speaker, and I think I love her. No love for the guy who said he didn't have to 'rebuke' her because she was a heretic blaspheming Islam, though.

May more like her start to speak out against fundamentalism and extremism in Islam.

(Looking up more about her on Google, I've just read that she and her family are now in hiding, thanks to death threats. :( )

ETA: An article about her in Israel's Arutz Sheva: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/news.php3?id=100139

There are many -- too many -- gross oversimplifications and outright falsehoods for my tastes.

Quote:
When the Muslims divided the people into Muslims and non-Muslims, and called to fight the others until they believe in what they themselves believe, they started this clash, and began this war.
So Christians and Jews don't and never have divided the world into believers and unbelievers, those who belong and those who don't, and used this division as the basis for conflict, territorial expansion, etc?

And some of this stuff:

Quote:
Humanity owes most of the discoveries and science of the 19th and 20th centuries to Jewish scientists...

We have not seen a single Jew protest by killing people...

Only the Muslims defend their beliefs by burning down churches, killing people, and destroying embassies.
...is just absurd.

Yeah, I guess.

Can you say "Irgun"? How about "Menachem Begin"? Or, maybe "King David Hotel"? The foundation of the state of Israel is partially grounded in terrorism.

While I agree with your assessments of her hyperbolic not-entirely-true rhetoric, I greatly admire her balls. I wish more women (and men) would give these Islamic fundies a dressing down like she did. And I don't mean Ann Coulter here; I mean men and women who are from Islamic cultures speaking out against the inhumanity of fundamentalist Islam.

I admire her balls too, as far as that goes. But I think her hyperbolic sometimes-ludicrously-false rhetoric is more likely to strike Muslims as evidence that secular=deluded than to inspire greater outcry against fundamentalism.
