Default Fox News

I've heard for years what a joke Fox News is, well, I watched a few minutes of it some weeks back and saw one of the most asinine "news" reports I think I've ever seen. They spent about thirty seconds telling the story of a kitten who hitched a ride under a motor vehicle and was "rescued" at the destination when the car, truck, whatever stopped. WTF? Now I love animals, don't get me wrong, but WHO FUCKING CARES? Fifty thousand people who starve to death every day don't make the news, but a goddamn kitten does. Isn't there more important things to report on? Honestly, I'd prefer 30 sec. more commercials to that. Anyway, I'll not be watching that shit again.

See what happens when they try to report good news?

To be fair, FOX News isn't unique in this regard. All the news outlets, including local news, have these bits of schlocky news. There was one bit the Daily News that showed just a bunch of clips of such stories from FOX, CNN, MSNBC, etc.

Yes, but didn't you find that the coverage of the kitten stowaway was fair and balanced?

There has to be a bit of light news at the end of the report - it's traditional. Often the skateboarding squirrel item is more interesting and memorable than the 'people with weapons are killing each other again' stories.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but that's not by any means restricted to Fox. Just about any news broadcast contains an item or two of pure schlock. Now, if they had cut to Bill O'Reilly opining that it was Clinton's policies that led to the animal's plight and cutting mics when people called in to tell him what blowhard he is...

No kidding... At one time the local newspaper's headline was "MOOSE IN WASCANA LAKE"

Local news is the worst, particularly in some of the more remote areas of the country. I was at my ex-wife's grandparents' place in the hills of Kentucky when the Oklahoma City bombing occurred and, I shit you not, we didn't find out about it until we got back home. The lead story on the local news that night was something about a local fair, I think...it had something to do with a pig, at any rate.
