Television Anyone Watching Penny Dreadful?

So while commuting to and from work, I came across posters advertising this series, which premiered tonight. I decided to watch the first episode and I have to say I like it thus far.

I happen to really like the setting and costumes in particular.

I thought the first episode was a pretty good introduction to the series and initial characters and I find myself looking forward to what happens next. Apparently the series was inspired by the mythology created by the penny dreadful novels of the 19th century. I definitely look forward to seeing how they bring those elements to life on the small screen.

So has anyone else seen it?

Under no circumstances should Quentin Tarantino be allowed to befoul Star Trek.

For some reason when I first saw the promos it was going to be on BBC(A). I was p excited but then discovered that it's on Showtime, which I can't get. I got a sense that it's like a Victorian Twilight Zone. (And also, something of a response to the success of American Horror Story.)

Yes indeed.

Haven't seen ep. 4 yet, but it's named after our very own Demimonde.

I watched the first few episodes after a friend made a crack about the new League of Extraordinary Gentlemen show.

Thematically, it feels like a cross between True Blood and American Horror Story. Lots of sex and gore like the former, but much more morose and dark like the latter. I enjoyed it to an extent, but the characters haven't been really compelling to me so far.

I did chuckle though when I saw the title of that episode. A few weeks ago someone asked me about my screen name. They were in disbelief that I had found a place where anyone knew what it meant. :giggle:
