Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
You guys should try making pasta sometime. It really is not all that difficult, though there is a lot of kneading at first. Then lots of folding and rolling before cutting, but it's fun and relaxing at the same time.
One of the pizza doughs we make requires a bath in olive oil. I love rolling out a dough that is soft and pliable from sitting in oil.

Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
Making pasta the old fashioned way is really easy. Just make a volcano with the flour and crack the eggs into the crater, then whisk the egg with a fork bringing in a little of the flour as you go. Some kneading, some rolling and voila. You don't even need a pasta roller/cutter (although they are awesome and make for very consistent pasta). You can make fettucine just by rolling up the dough and cutting it crosswise, like you're julienning basil.

Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
Okay... I was going to do some reading, but here I am in the forum again.
I usually use Semolina when I make pasta. I love the way it feels when I knead it.

Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
A simple loaf is my suggestion for a first time kneaded bread maker. This one is not American (we use cups, teaspoons and tablespoons, this uses grams and ml then converts to ounces) so the measurements may make more (or less?)sense to you, Kiwi
Here are the basics of kneading

All goods! Cups, tsp, etc is easy - I like those measurements. Ounces are more difficult, but so are grams, actually, as I have no scales.

Hmm, I am sure there are Internet conversions, but I can also probably find you an American recipe instead

Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
Nah, I'm good. I can always borrow my sister's scales (she lives in the unit where Lyn used to live). Probably should borrow her food processor too, to get the dough to the right mix before kneading.
I'm going to try the pizza over the weekend. The biggest question at that point will be whether or not I put pineapple on it. *ducks and runs*

Pineapple, ham, spinach, and feta are a wonderful combo on pizza. It has all the taste sensations. Sweetness of Pineable, spinach for bitterness, sour in the right type of dough, the saltiness of feta, and ham for umami.

Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
I love pineapple and I'm happy to put it with anything. But I don't think we should tell livius this. I don't want to break her heart, as she had such high hopes for us all.
Looking good, mulebear! I'm a fan of Hell Pizza - they have some great combos too, and that sounds like one they might do.

UGH YOU PEOPLE ARE DISGUSTING.
I may be an insufferable snob and a purist, but I'll stick with pineapple and jalapeno.

Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
Hey, just recently my sisterlady had me try pineapple and black olives, I was - to put it mildly - skeptical. But the salty sweet combo was really quite nice.

Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
The best is a tiny cube of pineapple, wrapped in cilantro, dipped in mayo, and snorted with a line of fine ground white pepper. It clears yer sinuses, de-phlegms the chest, tastes just wicked, has barely any calories, and the effects last all day! You should try it.

Don't forget to garnish with a bit of navel orange zest. Guess which part you're supposed to zest. Just guess!

ms_ann's bread is so beautiful!
I wasn't intending to try it, mostly because I'm even too lazy for a no-knead bread, but looking at that has motivated me to clean off my toaster oven and wash off my mini food processor.
I even looked at my dusty bread machine, with memories of better days and thoughts of potential.

Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
Having been inspired by this thread, I went searching for more information about the no-knead bread and ran across this article from the NY Times where the author has an interview with the supposed creator of the no-knead bread and he gives a different recipe that cuts the time of the rising to 3-4 hours. It uses red wine vinegar and hot water instead of the original recipe. (The recipe is in the video.)
Has anyone come across that recipe and tried it?
Edit: Here's a picture from a blog.

Re: The easiest bread you'll ever make
As soon as I get over this rotten cold I have, looks like bread making time. Has anyone here tried the "quick" version of this bread?
