Semi-serious House Immigration Bill
Passed by the House thursday, it would, among other things:
End the "catch and release" policy for illegal aliens.
Makes unlawful presence in the United States, currently a civil offense, a felony.
Construction of a fence in parts of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
Require all employers in the country, more than 7 million, to submit Social Security numbers and other information to a national data base to verify the legal status of workers
This end of the "catch and release" policy removes the most absurd policy re immigration. By "fence", I hope they mean a REAL fence, and the required reporting of SS numbers, formerly voluntarily (ha ha) will help if they find a way to greatly reduce counterfeit identification.
The bill was opposed by the Chamber of Commere, representing corporations and companies, puzzling since as we all know, they are a pillar of the far, extreme, really way out there, right-most right far wing, out there.
