Default Let's petition to keep him there....

This probably won't mean much to anyone very far beyond the state borders, but Bill Sizemore, the state's leading whackjob initiative petitioner, was cited for contempt for failing to file the appropriate federal and state nonprofit corporation applications. This was the fourth time he had appeared before the judge and she read out a two-hour statement as to why he was being cited for contempt, and he was handcuffed and led out of the courtroom.

He can petition hundreds of thousands of state residents, but he can't seem to fill out his forms correctly. Somehow, the money tended to go to things which state law doesn't seem to allow.

I still think that he should be tried (and convicted, I hope) on fraud charges and put him away for the requisite amount of time.

If we could just keep him there.

A two hour statement?
:tldr:
That's impressive.

I've seen a legal talent state that it wouldn't necessarily stop him from practicing his hobby, but the counter would be that any measure he supported or advanced would be rightfully smeared as the product of a convict serving time for fraud.

Was it seriously a two hour statement, though? Do you know how many pages it was? Was the judge just reading it very slowly, or did it include both his and the defendant's life stories? In three languages?

Two hours is barely enough time to list all the ballot measures he's put on the ballot here, with a brief description of what he did wrong.
What is it? 216 ballot measures? Only about three of them passed.
But if they don't pass the first few times, he keeps trying.

from linkMultnomah County Circuit Court Judge Janice R. Wilson ordered Sizemore jailed until he completes and files federal and state reporting forms that are required for charitable organizations to retain their tax exempt status.

<snip>

The dramatic moment came just after Wilson finished a more than two-hour recitation of her findings in the case.

This is his fourth citation for contempt. It's been a long and twisty road to this point. Two hours would only allow for the barest beginnings of Mr. Sizemore's perfidity. He has cost the state millions of dollars in legal costs to adjudicate his half-fast initiative measures.

Ok, makes sense then. Still, I'll bet that was quite a speech. Hopefully they had some water handy.

Oh, I've met Judge Janice before.
I like the federal judges here, they are pretty straight forward.

The article says that she's a Multnomah County Circuit Court judge....I think that is a state judge, rather than a federal one.

Nah, she was great. The husband, he's ok.
I guess.

Federal judges don't officiate marriages (unless they really want to, who'd stop them?) county judges do, for free.
That was why I was feeling like slapping myself.

Also makes sense a county Judge would preside over an election case, that also being run by the county.
