Terry J. Lovell: Who the Fuck is This Guy?

A neighbor sent me a link to a Tea Party type site that had , with the following message:

thought you might enjoy hearing from the head Scientist of the World on "Oil Assets" and who holds the cards in supplying the World. No wonder the Muslims want to take us out...;-). Just take the time to read it. Not only would we do away with unemployment, it would be a better way to spend Federal Dollars...instead of stupid "stimulus" packages that do nothing except allow people to catch up on their bills...no stimulus here!

What info I could find on Prof. Lovell is that a) a Terry J. Lovell is a business professor at a community college in Arizona; b) this particular Terry J. Lovell hates Obama and Eric Holder, and has YouTube videos plastered all over Tea Party Type sites all over the internet, and c) knows how to use Google to his advantage.


This particular video seems to be about fracking and shale oil, though my neighbor insists he's talking about crude oil. I know he's lying, but I want some substantive info on him.

Not sure where he's getting his data from, but the U.S. Energy Information Administration's own outlook shows that the US has less than 2% of the proven oil reserves.

Obama isn't lying, but I think the key difference is "Proven oil reserves"

Whereas proved reserves include only those estimated quantities of crude oil from known reservoirs, they are only a subset of the entire potential oil resource base. Resource base estimates include estimated quantities of both discovered and undiscovered liquids that have the potential to be classified as reserves at some time in the future. The resource base may include oil that currently is not technically recoverable, but could become recoverable in the future as technologies advance.

The U.S. may have more oil than is counted on, but that's because the oil is too difficult or much too costly to extract.

Why not make your neighbor give you the substantive info? Like...who is this guy? What are his credentials and who does he work for? Are shale oil and crude oil the same thing?

I know, is what I'd have to be smoking in order for this line of thought to be relevant. Your neighbor is an idiot, so why don't you just make up some good ones of your own and send them over with a youtube of a cat playing the piano? It's going to be just as productive.

Here's a photo of Dr. Lovell, who looks nothing at all like a criminally insane derelict. The Flickr conservative who posted the photo included Dr. Lovell's office phone and fax numbers, just in case any of you "Watermellons" feel like "attack[ing] a Skeptic."

Lovell has in times past been involved with a lovely assemblage of Arizona fruit bats collectively known as We the INFORMED People. Them there People are apparently INFORMED enough as-is, since it doesn't look like the site's been updated much since October 2010.
