I don't think the poll figures drive war so much as internal administration politics. What's different this time is that the Cheney hawk faction is getting real opposition from Rice, Gates, the intelligence agencies and even the military. It won't be so easy for the bomb-Iraners to get their way.

Dare I ask just what percentage of those polled have any personal experience of the subject? Should perhaps the poll have excluded those who cannot at least name Iran's leader, it's defence spokesperson and point to Iran on a globe?

Statistics such as those quoted mean nothing. Most of us, if pressed for an opinion, will choose to give an uninformed one rather than decline.

Since you don't need to do any of those things in order to vote, it doesn't make sense to require them for the poll.

Sadly what ES is saying is true: these people can vote, even if they haven't the faintest clue about whether their asses are on the front or the back. So their misguided opinions do matter.

But wait! Don't operate under the misconception that voters actually have a say in how foreign policy is carried out. I would think the last four years would be more than enough to demonstrate that.

Also, the "who should we trust?" question is an excellent one. I'm obviously no big fan of the Dumya chimpresident and his greedy grifter pals, but the Cocaine Importation Agency doesn't instill any confidence at all. Besides, the president has ultimate responsibility for every thing the CIA does.

I'm still amazed at the story that this 2003 data didn't reach the president until 2005 (or, alternatively, after his October 2007 statement), particularly since the issue has been a hot button for more than that long.

Now I see the CIA is getting its ass kicked for destroying video of prisoner abuse....I'd like to know who ordered that. Is it the CIA, or the administration goons inside the CIA?

Maybe they should trust the IAEA then. They turned out to be right about Iraq and they have always been saying they saw no evidence Iran was making a bomb.

Considering that a lot of experienced military were saying "Are You Crazy?!" (paraphrase) with the Iraq war from the beginning and what they got in reply was an early retirement, I doubt sincerly that their voices are going to be heard on this one, either.
