Re: Beer!
CC, we have similar taste in beer. (Leinenkugel's [Sunset Wheat is my top choice], Stella Artois, and Sam Adams [the seasonals]).
Here are some of my faves:
And once or twice a year:
I recently took a break from my usual faves and had some Killian's Irish Red for the first time in a long time. In the summertime, Corona with lime is my fave, or some other Mexican beers like Sol and Tecaté. And every so often I get some Rolling Rock (this past week was one of those oftens).
Ensign Steve: I love the hidden beer fridge you posted.

Since I fill my own copier, that's not the issue. However a redditor pointed out that the cover would be blown every time the motor turned on. Whoops!

Many of those little fridges are very quiet. If there are other machines in the room with cooling fans running, you may never hear it.

Hmmmm...this reads more like a plot than a comment.

Re: Beer!
In my office space, it could work.
Wait, we already have a full-sized fridge in the control room. All I would have to do is put cans of beer in a Diet Dr Pepper box. Who would know the difference between me sober and me drunk? Asleep is asleep.

Re: Beer!
I drink a lot of beer, and am always giving new ones a try, so thanks for the reccomendations. I typically take into account the season and the food I am having to decide what I want.
This time of the year if I want a dark ale, I like New Belgium's 1554:

Those Fat Tire lover's might want to give it a try.
For a dark lager I like a little local brewery that won Best in Class 2007 United States Beer Tasting Championships. At least according to the googlz, I did not know that.
Rahr is hard to find even locally because of Texas's stupid distribution laws. But if you can get it, it is fantastic.
For a medium red I will always turn to Shiner Bock:
The Texan's best friend. Best thing is that most good bars offer it for domestic prices. Though most corporate places offer it as "Import." How, pray tell, does a city within my own state count as foreign? Anywho, the Spotzle boys are so established that you can get it most places in the US.
Another favorite that I found lately that I love for Indian summer / Fall is Magic Hat's #9:
I didn't recognize the label as my bar has it on tap. They describe it on their website as a "not quite pale ale" and it has strange overtones of apricot and rose. Not toilet water in your face overtones, it's just there. I really have taken a fancy to it.
But my new reigning love in reds is Smithwicks:
A beer so good it has survived centuries.
I don't drink alot of pale beers. Only if I am having something really spicey do I want one. When I do I typically go south of the border.
And yes for that one I do drink it from a can, it just feels right.
Or this guy:
Another good Mexican beer I like is
It's really affordable too. Though gee, it's dark. I'm really having to think hard to find pale ales or blondes I like. What can I say, I like dark meat too.

Demi, did you try Magic Hat's summer ale? It was really good. And it's pink.

Re: Beer!
Do you ever get St. Arnold's, Demi? Out of the locals, I like them a lot more than Shiner, although I like Shiner's 1500, or whatever number is on the damned thing. St. Arnold's Amber is my go-to brew these days.
I second the love for Negra Modelo. It's the only brew I get at Messican restaurants anymore.
I just picked up Anchor Steam's current version of Christmas Ale. I used to look forward to that every year and even stock up before it disappeared. I dunno if it's just the current version, or if I'm just not that into it anymore, but I find this stuff too syrupy and nutmeggy. Can't really bring myself to have more than one per night.

Re: Beer!
I haven't tried Anchor Steam's Christmas ale, so I can't say what's up with that one, but generally, Christmas beers are kind of overwrought or gloopy or cloying. Some of them just taste like fizzy malted egg nog, others taste like they have artificial flavorings added or something.
Try Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale, though. It's got the complexity of an Xmas beer, but it doesn't hit you over the head with it, and it's still an ale with discernible hops. I switch to that during the holiday season, and I'm still able to drink myself into a violent but ultimately ineffectual stupor every night.

Widmer Brother's brews are not my favorites, but I quite like thier Drop Top Amber Ale.
I also like Deschutes Black Butte Porter
Both Oregon micro-brews.

I'd swear Anchor didn't used to be gloopy before. My guess is that they fell into a more-is-better mindset and ruininated it.
I think I tried Sierra's Celebration Ale way back when, and at that time it paled in comparison to Anchor's. I'll try it this year; I bet that it kicks Anchor's butt now.

Re: Beer!
I'll be honest CC, the idea of pink beer gives me the willies a wee bit. But I would give it a try without a dare. I doubt the boys at the bar will be putting it on tap anytime soon, (there might be a riot), but I'll check my fru fru upper-crust grocery, they might have it.
Sock, you will laugh at me. The name sounded familiar, and upon googling it I can say I have only tried St. Arnold's root beer! It was quite good though. I will have to seek some out. I imagine that I can find it, if they've been grandfathered in the distribution pipeline. Any particular brew you would recommend?
The root beer thing reminds me, my friend was driving his wife, mother-in-law, and stepdaughter home after a Sunday lunch. A concerned citizen, (AKA nosey fascist) called the police to report him for drinking beer while driving. He was pulled over, with back up and harassed. Not because he is a blue haired, tatted up musician this time. But because he was drinking root beer. The blue hair prolly did encourage the person to call it in though. Boy my friend was pissed.
Actually with all these recomendations, I think when I go to Central market for my super special Christmas ingredients I'll mix up a sixer of some of the beers you guys have listed that I haven't tried. A Christmas sampler with less calories and more fun that a Whitman's for sure.
ETA: I generally can't do Christmas ales. Or at least I haven't found one I like. I do like Widmer though, and in my quest to broaden my amber horizons I might try the Drop Top, thanks Z.
ETA2 Cause this thread is moving moving. liv, that does sound interesting. In my many batches of ice cream eggnog, I might have to add some club soda to one and give it a try. Like an alcoholic eggnog float, or an egg cream with alchymahol. Damn that does sound good. I love egg creams because I am an old lady trapped in a young body.
